Action
With an interest in improving the psychiatric crisis and emergency services system in Franklin County, the Central Ohio Hospital Council, Columbus Medical Association, and Franklin County ADAMH Board (ADAMH), with support from The Columbus Foundation joined together to develop the PCES Task Force. The funding for the effort was provided by ADAMH and The Columbus Foundation. Gallagher provided facilitation and communications services for the 40+ member task force.
This included working closely with a diverse set of health care and related stakeholders in Central Ohio to build consensus, conduct community interviews, lead effective meetings and facilitate input sessions with areas leaders. The group developed and published recommendations about how the community best handle the escalating need of emergency care for mental health-related crises. The implementation efforts have started. Project groups are currently working to leverage these recommendations to improve the psychiatric crisis protocol in Franklin County.
Result
The diverse group of stakeholders continue to successfully and collaboratively work together to implement recommendations such as increasing treatment options and the availability of beds in the region.
